Latrigg, also known as “Keswick’s fell,” offers a scenic circular walk encompassing the Cumbria Way sections and the historic railway line linking Penrith and Cockermouth.
The summit of Latrigg boasts stunning vistas of Keswick, Derwent Water, and the surrounding mountains, making it an ideal location for a picnic and sightseeing experience.
Start your Latrigg ascent at the beginning of the Bridleway, also known as Spoonygreen Lane, located at Grid Ref NY 267 241.
You will cross the A66 via a bridge and continue along the Cumbria Way, a track that can become muddy and slippery during wet weather.
Avoid turnings into Latrigg woods and stay on the Cumbria Way until you reach Grid Ref NY 276 253, where a steep slope on your left takes you to the summit.
Although passable for all-terrain pushchairs, you may need assistance lifting them over rough ground.
The path winds its way up the fell, with stunning views from the summit.
Continue along the summit’s ridge to the northwest before descending to meet a track at Grid Ref NY 285 248.
Turn right onto the track, then right again onto the disused railway line at Grid Ref NY 298 247.
This well-maintained, level path will take you back to Keswick, ending at the Leisure Centre.
Estimated Total Time: 4 hours (for ascent and descent)
