With favourable weather conditions, you can enjoy panoramic views of Scotland and the Isle of Man from the summit.

Keep in mind that the area is entirely exposed, so expect some wind gusts on windy days.

Your descent takes you through a historic disused mine, which has been designated a Scheduled Monument.

As this is a substantial hike, allocate plenty of time for it.

Start your journey from the car park located just outside the village of Braithwaite, which can be easily accessed with the Grid Ref NY 227 237.

The path to the summit of Grisedale Pike is well-marked and easy to follow, with little chance of getting lost along the way.

As you make your ascent, the terrain becomes rockier, and it’s essential to be mindful of strong winds that can arise.

However, the effort will be worth it as the views from the top are truly breathtaking.

On your way back, retrace your steps along the same path until you reach Grid Ref NY 192 219.

You can extend your hike by continuing to Hopegill Head before descending via Sand Hill and the mine for a longer, more strenuous trek.

Alternatively, turn left at Grid Ref NY 192 219 and follow the path down the side of the fell, eventually joining another path at Grid Ref NY 188 213.

Make two more left turns at Grid Ref NY 188 211 and continue on the old mine track.

This path takes you past abandoned mine buildings and a valley, eventually leading you back to the car park where you started.

Overall, Grisedale Pike is a medium-difficulty walk that offers stunning views, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a challenging but achievable trek in the Lake District.

Estimated Total Time: 6 hours (for ascent and descent)
